Intensive EMDR

The traditional model of weekly psychotherapy is not the only way to meet your needs. I am happy to offer clients in California the support they need using Intensive EMDR in an online format.

Intensive EMDR sessions may be a good fit for you if:

  • You are feeling stuck within your current talk therapy and are having a hard time making as much progress as you’d like. Adding adjunct EMDR Intensive therapy may help

  • Your schedule feels too busy to accommodate weekly therapy sessions

  • You’re needing relief from symptoms now

Compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time. We’re not spending a lot of time checking in at the beginning of each session and addressing the week’s crises and concerns. Instead, the work is more focused and accelerated. It’s customized for each client.

EMDR is helpful for resolving trauma, and it’s also helpful for performance enhancement so that you can progress in areas such as art, writing, athletics, business, and in relationships. If there is something in your life that triggers you or causes you to have a big reaction that feels like too much, or is continually stressful, EMDR can be excellent for shedding light on what’s going on and for helping to process these issues so that you can get relief.

Ongoing intensive EMDR is available if you are desiring long-term support towards several treatment goals. As a Parnell-trained Attachment-Focused Clinician (www.parnellemdr.com), I have extensive experience working with complex and developmental trauma. We work to:

  • Discover the origins of limiting beliefs and triggers in order to update old stories about who you are and what you deserve

  • Ease anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms

Intensive EMDR may not be a good fit for people who:
Are actively struggling with alcohol or drug dependence without the aid of supports, such as a 12-step program
Are actively psychotic or in the throes of bipolar disorder
If you are physically fragile, have a heart condition, high blood pressure, or other medical conditions, please consult with your physician.

THE EMDR INTENSIVE PROGRAM

Each Intensive involves 4.5 contact hours within a 2-week period. An optional customized treatment workbook is available. Workbooks are tailored to each individual client’s specific needs, and you will have access to it before the intensive interview. The workbook exists to guide and support you before, during, and after your EMDR intensive. If you have a regular weekly therapist, this workbook can assist you in integrating your EMDR intensive experience and in providing you with a customized map related to therapy goals.

  • 90-minute interview before intensive—to assess for candidacy, as well as target unpleasant beliefs, body sensations, emotions, or images from which you are seeking relief.

  • 90-minute Intensive—includes a customized treatment program with targeted treatment goals. EMDR with Ruth is done virtually.

  • 90-minute interview for follow up—to assess and support your adaption to positive changes from treatment.

Fees are communicated ahead of time, in accordance with the No Surprises Act.

INTENSIVE EMDR ADJUNCT THERAPY
Brief adjunct EMDR with me can speed progress in your traditional therapy with your primary therapist. I work collaboratively with your primary therapists to help you work on specific, targeted memories, body sensations, or limiting beliefs with EMDR. By focusing on specific traumatic memories or intrusive material with EMDR, stuck points can become unstuck, and your work with your regular therapist can become richer. Adjunct EMDR therapy isn’t a replacement for ongoing therapy. Clients continue to see their primary therapist. Usually adjunct therapy is short term. (Often we’ll meet only 3-10 times for intensive 90-minute sessions).
